Did you ever get your mouth washed out with soap when you were a child?

I had it threatened as a child but never done. I was always terrified of it, maybe even more than of a spanking. I've heard it's a horrible punishment and most people remember it vividly.

Do you still remember how bad it tasted? I've heard people say it's a taste you never forget.

I think it was brought up occasionally, but it never actually happened to me.

Yes, and I didn't even know why.  My sister and I have speculated but still aren't sure.  My sister had hers washed once but we know why.  :)

Nope.  Seriously, spankings were much harder for me.  Not because they hurt more, but because I always had to wait until my brothers got theirs...and just the suspense and the anticipation and the empathy I felt for them.

That was the technique my middle school principal used.  He'd have me wait outside his office for two periods watching as one poor sod after another 'got theirs.' :-)

It didn't work too well.  It got to the point where I had a bi-weekly appointment.

Only my elementary school paddled students.  The teachers administered the paddlings in the hall and you went right back into class.

Yeah, I remember it happening only once, probably for throwing a tantrum and saying something nasty... I choked on a suds bubble and then it was over.

Serves you right, if that's how you spoke to your mum. Under normal circumstances I'd agree it's a nasty punishment, but that's not a normal circumstance and a nasty punishment is justified.

My parents never did that.  To be honest, I think it's a form of child abuse.

Never.  I would have been poisoned by detergent by the time I was 7 if that were the case.
