I wonder if any snobs who refuse to shop at Walmart, Clip coupons and look down on those who enjoy free stuff CHEAT ON THEIR TAXES?

That's the way the snobs get free stuff. THEY STEAL IT. Good to know.

I think clipping coupons speaks of a highly organized mind who deals with figures quite well.

I don't do it, but that is because I am lazy. Not because I think I am right.  I'm sure I could have saved A LOT of money if I got on board, but I just am NOT that kind of person.  I cannot keep track of nickles and dimes.  I need to, but I do not.

I do everything in my head and round it off to the nearest amount and then check every now and then. I am usually very close to what I actually have saved.  It works for me. I wouldn't recommend it though.

Years ago when they doubled an unlimited number of coupons and stores gave double coupons I made out like a bandit. My best foray one day? I bought $200 worth of stuff and THEY OWED ME A NICKEL. I am not joking. Jim had me keep all the tapes just because he was so proud of me. Here's how it worked. I'd have a coupon for $1 when doubled was worth $2. The store would have "buy 1 get 1 free" sale for $1.98! Do the math and multiply by dozens and dozens and dozens. I had so much fun. Of course saving the money was really enjoyable but figuring out how best to get the most out of them? That was my carrot! I regularly saved 75% or more every week for years. Then the market fell out. You were limited to 3 of the same kind of coupon then the stores stopped offering  double coupons then you were limited to using only one coupon per like item then they stopped doubling and it could only be redeemed at face value. Those days are gone but I worked the system legally and took advantage of the coupons and what the stores offered. Thank you for your reply Sharon! It was better than winning bucks on a nickel machine at Vegas. This post was edited by RosieG at November 28, 2019 10:19 AM MST

You had your own hobby/part-time job that probably paid more than most part time jobs if you think about it.  Great idea.  That is why you are secure.  Because you know value and you think outside the box.

Where does this "snob" idea come from?

There are other reasons not to shop at Walmart, Target and similar mass-production companies.
    1. Many of the products are made from petrochemicals, meaning more greenhouse gases go into the environment during manufacture.
    2. These synthetic products breakdown into rubbish which frequently ends up in the ocean, in the stomachs and around the throats of marine life. Or they breakdown into nanoparticles which end up in the stomachs of shrimp and other marine life, accumulating in the muscles of animals higher food chain and ending up on the stomachs and metabolisms of humans.
    3. Many of the products, especially clothing, are made overseas in sweatshops in places like India and Burma. There, the workers are not paid a wage sufficient to live on. The factories where they work are so poorly built. Periodically they collapse. Everyone inside is buried alive, hundreds of workers at a time.

If one has little money, it's more environmentally and socially responsible to buy second hand from op shops.

True not everyone who does not shop Walmart is a snob.
But many are....and refer to Walmart shoppers as stupid, smelly, there are websites devoted to making fun of the Walmart shopper (yes some of them need made fun of)  etc.

Some people boycott Walmart because of their effect on small local stores.

    Wow! :(
How low can people go in their sense of humour?

I'm sure you're right about the effects on small shop keepers too.
We have a similar problem here with the big chain stores using monopolistic tactics on independent businesses.

There are no Walmarts in my city, so I can't shop there. But Costco and Target are convenient to my home.
