Another divide as intense immense and rigid as the political partisan wide divide. Cat lovers versus dog lovers. Anyone out there have both?

If so do you love your dogs more or your cats more or are they all your kids and you love them equally?

We have a zoo - 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 tree frogs and a cockatiel. 2 of the cats belong to my daughter, the other to my wife. The cats and I stay outta each other's way and that suits all 4 of us. My staffy jumps all over me when I get home from work in paroxysms of joy that I'm back. Demonstrative affection, I like that. The other dog, a German Shepherd, is also my daughter's - he's old and rheumaticky. He'll kiss my hand and thump his tail a couple times, then he needs another nap.

Just read what you wrote there m'dear. The cats ignore you and you do not like being ignored. You like demonstrative affection. You want to matter to your pets. The cats mostly don't care if you're there or not. The dogs all make you feel awesome good because they are delighted at your presence. When we visited my son and his wife at their home in Honolulu they had two dogs at the time. You'd come in and they'd jump up and down and all around barking and hitting up against me. I HATED it but I endured it. I don't know if it's a gender thing or not. Maybe guys need more attention than gals. Women have been placed in the background for thousands of years. I dunno. It's complicated. I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply. You want to be KING. I get it.

I don't need to be king at all. The dog is affectionate and I reciprocate - scratch her ears, play tug of war with her knotted rope, wrestle her onto her back and tickle her belly - she likes to play and she's a big girl so she plays rough. The cats aren't playful at all, at least not with me. Am I being "king" when my wife and I hug and kiss?

Here's a thought. Perhaps the cats sense your aversion to them and react accordingly. Just a thought. I KNOW naught. But I do opine. Thank you for your reply R! :)

I have 2 cars and 1 dog.  The dog was raised by the cats so he thinks he's a cat (he even meows).  Of course, the cats have also taken on dog characteristics from being around my dog.

I love each pet equally.  My little cat is a cuddler.  He has to be where I am and usually touching me (unless he falls asleep and doesn't hear me leave the room). My large cat is a macho cat.  He does what he pleases, goes where he pleases when he pleases, and refuses to be a lap cat under any circumstances.  He has gotten a bit more people oriented since he's gotten old, but he still has his "rules".  My dog... well, he's just weird.  While he will accept huggs, he can't do it without a stuffed toy in his mouth (preferably a duck or a moose).
