What are some amenities in hotel rooms of which you never take advantage?


Mine are: mini bar, shoe shine service, air conditioning, Gideon Bible*, local telephone calls**, blow dryer, adult movie options, coffeemaker***.

*To be fair, this doesn't truly belong in the ‘never’ column, because once about twenty years ago or so when I was staying in a hotel room, I cracked one open.

**Once again, decades ago I’m sure I may have used a hotel phone to make a local call. 

***Please don’t tell Just Asking; I would rather not hear all the nagging again. Sheesh.

      Wait, how is “sleeping in” supposed to be an actual amenity offered by a hotel?  It may be described more accurately as a perk, a side benefit, a guilty pleasure, a well-deserved extra, but an amenity?

    Is air conditioning an actual amenity? Do you only travel during the winter months??

    I almost never say never, but can't see the shoe shine thing ever happening.

      There are some places that offer air conditioning as an upgrade, yes. Also, when hotel chains advertise something like that, especially when comparing their services to that of other firms, that’s what makes it an amenity.

    True...maybe some back-woods dump in West Virginia. I certainly wouldn't go their. But, I have only been to two motels in ten years. Prior to that, I was still in the Navy and we were at the Navy lodge in Norfolk.

      I‘m not just referring to hotels in the US, or hotels in the first world, or hotels in 2019, or hotels in hot climates, or five-star hotels.

    Hehe!!

    I nearly stayed at a back-woods dump in West Virginia once. We got into the room and I fully realized how dumpy it was and went right back to the front desk, got a refund and got the hell out of there. Had to drive over an hour through the hills and hollers to find another place to stay, but I had a strong feeling that something really bad might happen if we'd stayed at that dump.

    Cooler climates, I'm assuming. You'd be hard-pressed to find a hotel/motel in Florida that doesn't include A/C!

    But what about you? You said you've never used A/C at a hotel...

      One of the first things I do upon entering my hotel room is to turn off the air conditioner.

      I’m not cold-blooded, I’m very warm-blooded. I just don’t like air conditioning.

    I was just joking. 

    I've asked for a new room because the A/C wasn't working properly on at least 2 occasions that I recall. Ever traveled to Georgia in July? :P

  • I never use their shampoos and  conditioners, I bring my own. I don’t want my hair to smell like cheapness.

      Even if you think it looks weird, the apostrophe makes it a possessive singular noun. The shampoo belonging to whom?

     You wrote, “I never use their shampoos and  conditioners  . . . ”.  In this context, the word “shampoos” is a plural noun, not a possessive noun, so it does not signify ownership by the hotel.
