    Nope. Neither one. 
    The cow was alive. And the celery was alive before it was harvested.

    Nahhh...  You can tell when the cells of a steak die by the SMELL..  When a stalk of celery dies it turns BROWN, LIMP, STINKY and NOT good to eat..

    That is not always true. If you procure freshly harvested celery from the market and place that celery in water, it will root once more.
