After reading a beautiful poem an Answermug friend shared I was reminded of something about love long ago. WHAT?

When I was on Answerbag there was a guy who was a "friend" at the time and we found ourselves on opposite sides of an issue. I could not believe his position and I guess he could not believe mine.

He said if you say "I love you" too often it loses any meaning. It should be said Sparingly and Rarely to mean anything. I said I thought that was ridiculous! That there should  not be any budgeting of telling someone you love "I love you". An artificial limit to what should be a glorious feeling expressed to the person who engenders it. Putting limits on that? Seriously?

So what do you think? Why?

It's meaningless if not backed by behaviour. Loyalty. Faithfulness. Tenderness. A willingness to put the other's interests ahead of your own.

That goes without saying R. Do you budget how often you tell Maureen "I love you"? Geez I tell Jim multiple times a day. What I think I say. You know that about me. I hold nothing back. I don't edit or think about the consequences. What I believe is true I say. Why would I be any other way? Anyway I agree with you. Sham phony false faux pretense is not a good thing in anyone at any time for any reason. Thank you for your reply. This post was edited by RosieG at December 22, 2019 8:28 AM MST

If you love someone, let them know as often as you feel the urge to say "I love you."  But, as Slartibartfast said, it has to be bolstered by deeds as well as words.  Happy Sunday. :)

I think if you mean it, then it always is sincere and it doesn't matter how often or how seldom.

Just mean it.  That is the magic.

I never say what I don't mean Sharon. AT THAT MOMENT. Now of course later on as people change and situations change I change. Otherwise my word is my bond and you can take it to the bank and it will never bounce. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday! :)
