  • A contrarian view often invites a barrage of invective, which can turn very hateful in public as well as private messages. Been through that experience a few times.

Or if arthritis sets in the experience can literally be painful. Thank you for your reply Baba! :)

I invite contrarian views IF AND ONLY IF they are civil. Sometimes they are anything but. There is no excuse for that and I do not tolerate it. I ignore nasty folks. It's quite easy to do. Just pay attention to those who are consistently rude and simply ignore them and stop reading any of their posts. That way they do not  exist. Folks who don't exist cannot possibly annoy you! Thank you for your reply Neelie!  :)

Yap, being tired of the habitual response behavior of some of the posters around here. Their offensive ways of dealing with comments that questions the premises behind their posts is somewhat killing for a proper discussion, and it turns very easily into trash talk which doesn't belong inside a Q&A site. IMHO.

I think as long as you keep an open mind and are respectful to those who may know more about the subject at hand than you do, and have relevant comments or questions, then you're good to go.

If you're going to have a stick up your butt and are only there to argue rather than discuss, then maybe that question is not for you.

  • Some I don't answer because of who asked. There are some who post questions just to start an argument. Some I don't answer due to the subject matter of the question, because some will comment on the answer just to start an argument or to be insulting.
