Too much Censorship or not enough!!!

People are saying there's too much Censorship on the site being handed out by a group of rogue moderators.
Don't know them,
Never seen them, Great people I'm sure, Gotta Love EM.
Wouldn't the site be so much better without them, where we could have anybody say anything they wanted to any one without consequence or repercussion.
I mean, wouldn't that be.great folks.
A lot of people are saying that.
Every body knows that.

    Believe me
It would start sweet at the edge and then slowly get sour.

This pie in the sky idiocy is why there ARE moderators.  No one can say ANYTHING anywhere and get away with it.   DO you go in public and shoot your mouth off to anyone and everyone and the devil take the consequences?  There is a reason  for that. Other people have rights too. What you are asking for is total chaos.  We need a foundation and rules to even exist.  But this site goes too far.  They are fledglings in how to operate a properly censored site.

The problem is not being able to act in any manner you choose.  The problem is how it is handled and who gets to tell someone what to say and when.

Don't attack people out of hand.  That is easy enough . But NO.  It has to be intermingled with "well if this one can say this then that one can say that" nonsense.

Take the argument and read it.  If it is causing a fight and insulting people, then there is maybe a cause to take action.

People on here always want to see if they can take it too far.  Those comments the "too far" ones are the ones that should just be quashed.

    Period.

No one has to complain and be heard.    What is this BEING HEARD nonsense?  Does that ever solve a thing?  All it leads to is more arguing between the complainer and the management.

Please Management, let us play.   We want to have FUN on here and that sometimes means arguing our heads off.

The trouble starts when some mealy-mouthed idiots don't get their way on an answer so they have to whine and complain and bitch to the management.  SO blame the members who are allowed to COMPLAIN.

    Management?  You need to chill

Members?  You need to suck it up and shut it.

  • When everyone (including myself) joined this site, part of that membership process was to agree to the Terms of Service and the community rules and guidelines.

AnswerMug is a privately owned Website, not an open forum protected by the US constitution where freedom of speech is protected.

Every site I've ever been on has had people complain about "Censorship".

If members know the rules and agree with them, why do they become incensed when the moderators enforce those rules? That's not so much a question about oppressive policies, but more of a question purtaining to human behavior.

If you're driving a car @ 50mph in a 20mph school zone, do you cry when you get pulled over by the police and blame them for doing their job? Of course not!

  • Friend Sharonna,
The Question is supposed to be sort of sarcastic, but I'm going to tesponse to you honestly.
I used to feel like you. And I too, got censored a couple of times.
The way I made it ok in my mind was to think about who's project this is. Please do not take this as kissing JAs butt, but this is her thing. This is a monster investment on her part. Her house.
I get to come here and. talk to friends and l laugh at the crazy things some people e believe in.
The same way I set the rules in my house. I have to accept her rules in here.
I know you feel very strongly and I don't pretend to change your mind. I'm just sharing my views with you.
    NO CENSORHIP!

I have seen many other sites and this one is probably one of the best out there without heavy handed moderation.

I also notice this site does not encourage drama makers to stay afloat.

  • You're right.

You and I have been on several other sites together aside from this one.

I myself whined and complained about over-moderation, under-moderation, biased-moderation, etc on all those and it was not without merit.

I like the way JA handles this site. This is the first site I ever chose to volunteer as a Mod because I felt the rules were eastablished and it was very well run. This is a testament to JAs committment and skills from a management perspective.

You know me well enough to know that I'm not a big a$$ kisser and I'm a rebel without a clue. ;)

Ass kisser you are not.  And we both came from places where we should have been pretty jaded.

Maybe it takes being a member in a very dysfunctional place to appreciate another that really tries to do it right.  For that I am grateful.

I laugh here and at no one's expense.  That is all that matters.

That's so spot-on, Peapod, but I think the word "dysfuntional" is not strong enough to describe one of those sites.

  • Too much. They shouldn't ban personal insults. It achieves nothing. All it does is cause all the usual suspects to phrase their insults in a passive aggressive indirect way. It's often done as a question. People are going to find ways to insult each other. The passive aggression is even more offensive than them just saying it straight.

I have no problems with this site, as long as that goat don't mess with me....lol  j/k

I signed on, go by the TOS, read, wrote comments.  Yes, I had some problems, but NOTHING worth mentioning.

Censsorship is the LAST thing I worry about.  I do THINK before I type. Believe it or not!
