They'll probably switch to weed, which is less harmful.
Personally I think that anyone who can be expected to fight and die in their country's wars should also be permitted to do anything else other adults can do. Raise the military enlistment age to 21.

So weed does not cause cancer or emphysema then? I agree. if you are legal to fight and die for your country you deserve to have the same rights as other citizens. So much of legislation is illogical and irrelevant as well as harmful. Posturing for its own sake. Thank you for your reply R! :)

I said "less harmful", not "harmless". The long term effects of cannabis resin on the lungs are unknown, largely because smokers left themselves liable to prosecution if openly admitting to its use, so studies could not be carried out. They are talking about getting rid of the flavored stuff leaving menthol and reg just like cigarettes.

It will make it harder. Drinking is illegal for an 18yr old as well. I personally drank more between 16 and 19 than my entire life combined.

Laws cannot stop people from disobeying them.  Theoretically, (most) laws are meant to help people (I'm not saying laws are perfect).  Unfortunately, many people see laws as "suggestions".

How many people do you see obeying the speed limit - be it 25 in a residential zone or 65 on the freeway?  The law says don't drink and drive.  Yet nearly 10,000 people are killed every year by drunk drivers.  The law says don't use your phone while driving.  Yet each year around 3,000 people are killed every year due to someone using their phone while driving.

Smoking/vaping kills people. Fact!  So in an effort to prevent young people from dying, they raise the legal age from 18 to 21.  Immediately people gripe how the government is "controlling them".  Teens (18-21) can fight in a war but they can't have the "joys"(?) of drinking and smoking.  Seriously?  How many of these "teens" (18-21) are fighting for our country?  Say 25%?  How about 50%?   What about the rest of them?  Are they of less importance since they don't serve?

These laws are only trying to HELP.  Of course people are going to disobey them.  And some people will die as as result of that disobedience. - 15 year-old dies from vaping, family grief stricken.    Sometimes other innocent people die as a result of that person's disobedience. - Drunk driver kills a family of 4 who on their way to their grandmothers house for christmas.

Then again, we could simply make everything be legal for people of all ages -  "Infant Marlboros - a taste to die for!"  ;  "Jack Daniel's jr - put a little pep in your child's sippy cup!"
