It turns out spiders have neural cells which occupy their cephalothorax, cells which in some species extends into the legs.
So all it takes is neural cells for psycho-active drugs to affect perception and behaviour.
Maybe some types of intelligence are rooted at a far more primal level than we imagine.
I experimented three or four times with some of those drugs many years ago. Don't regret what I learned. But gee, I'm glad I never took up drugs as a lifestyle.
