It is obvious you have never been to an Irish wake. To Wit

The Irish wake is pretty similar to a funeral. However, people in Ireland believe that is a cause for celebration. In the modern times, they celebrate the life of the deceased person. They gave the guests a day to remember and to cherish every time the deceased cross their minds.

 Modern funerals do acknowledge the grief but are geared to celebrating the life that was. They are even often called a  "celebration of the life of..."

Which reminds me, I have been invited to one such.
