"Different Drum" by Linda Ronstadt. It was first recorded as a Bluegrass song by the Greenbriar Boys. Later she recorded it with the Stone Poneys as a folk rock song. It was written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees who was more of a rock 'n roll artist. (Might not quite meet your criteria .. but Linda often recorded crossover music.)
