For those of you who aren't familiar, Poet Laureate Joe is an anonymous poet who occasionally slides me his works and allows me to share them with you. This is his latest installment.
START WITH A CLEAN SLATE
We are all born to begin with a clean slate.
With the chances that we could do something great.
Being with our parents to start both day and night.
On our childhood, they will be the first to write.
Our parents influence and mold us for both good and bad.
But if they chalk mostly negative that can be really sad.
Because what values and ethics that they put in place.
The negative parts do become difficult to erase.
Hopefully our parents used colored chalks to brighten our way.
With hopes, dreams and encouragement that we get each day.
Then we get new chalk on our slate from friends and school.
We will be able to take their help and it becomes our tool.
Many people will enter and leave our lives as we continue to grow.
And the ones whose influence we need to erase, we hope to know.
The ones who help and make the marks that turn out bright.
Will continue us on our way to a bigger and brighter light.
So as we gaze at all the colors that are upon our slate.
With guidance and wise choices, we could wind up something great.
So it is up to us what will be positive to decide.
And the negative is then taken and dusted outs
