If Bernie Sanders is an Independent ... why is he allowed to run for the Democrat Party nomination?

From 1978 to present, he identified himself as an Independent.

Only in 2015-2016 did he identify as a Democrat.  Basically to run for their nomination.
He did the same thing this time.  In 2019, identify as a Democrat to run for the party nomination.

Why does the Democrat Party put up with this fraud?

I would suggest that it is virtually settled science that no Independent candidate has a chance in hell of winning the WH. Surely, Bernie would know this.

In light of the fact we now have a US President who is known to have changed his political affiliation at least 5 times, to wit:

Donald Trump went from a registered Republican (1987);to the Independent Party of NY (1999); to a Democrat (2001) -he even contributed money to the [now hated] Clintons; back to a Republican (2009); then to “no party affiliation” (2011); then back to Republican again in 2012...
    So what is he, really?
Do we sniff a double standard?

DNC makes their own rules for their primary.

I bet they are wishing they had written something in there about party affiliation now.
