When in doubt do you Google? Has Google ever let you down? If so, when and how?

I don't use Google and haven't for quite some time. I stopped using it because it did let me down. It let me down when I found out it records pretty much everything you search for. I don't need nor do I want to use something that knows and records my every move. It's not a matter of whether or not I have something to hide, it's a matter of an invasion of my privacy.

SAY WHAT? Are you seriously telling me the TRUTH ru or hopefully are you just teasing me? I, like you, never research anything that would be embarrassing. I wouldn't ask Google "How do I overthrow the government" for example. BUT THAT ISN'T THE POINT IS IT? It would be like having access to someone's diary without their permission. So how did you find this out and what other internet sites track you like a criminal? Sheesh. This is very unhappifying. Thank you for your reply. AARRGGHH! :( Gonna ask and give you blind attribution. Good golly miss molly. :(

It doesn't matter what you ask Google to find, it still tracks and records your inquiries. I also no longer use the Google Chrome browser for that very reason. Here is an article you may find interesting.

I don't have Google Chrome but OMG! I read the link and OMG. Every search I do through GOOGLE. So it knows what is of interest to me. How can that hurt me ru? I don't do anything financial online. I never buy anything nor do I pay bills online or give out my credit card number. What harm can knowing what kind of research I do possibly do to me? For example whenever we watch TCM (Turner Classic Movies) about a real historical character I always GOOGLE it the next day to see how close to reality the movie was. Or I will Google a celebrity to see if he/she is still alive after we see a movie that stars the person. I ask lots of questions that I think Google can answer about laws or rules if I need clarification. How could any of that possibly hurt me? I don't go anywhere that would embarrass me if others found out. I don't live life on the wild or dark side. There is nothing about me that if others found out would embarrass me. I'm an open book. So where am I vulnerable? Thank you for your reply ru. Even so I am not happy having BIG BROTHER watch my every move. :( This post was edited by RosieG at March 5, 2020 6:32 AM MST

Knowing what Google does, if you are comfortable using it, then by all means continue. However, for me personally, what Google does and to the extent that they do, it is totally unjustified and unacceptable.

I just think there is not much, if any, exposure for me ru. I do appreciate your informing me though. Being informed of the potential consequences of what you're doing is ALWAYS HELPFUL. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 6, 2020 8:31 AM MST

I use Google if it's something not that important like finding pictures for posts I make here just because it's a habit but if it's something more important I just use DuckDuckGo.  Google results seem heavily edited towards one point of view and DuckDuckGo's results don't.  Also, Google took away so many search features that it used to have so now there's nothing that sets it apart from any other search engines anymore.

Hi Liv. DuckDuckGo seems very cutesy piesy to me. Never heard of it but thank you for the information. I'll investigate it. So far has it been DEPENDABLE and FAIR as far as you know? Happy Wednesday Liv. Hope all is fine with you and yours! :)

I use Duck Duck Go as well. I can get the same results as Google without worrying about being tracked.
