To be honest, I can't remember what flu symptoms are like. The last time I had the flu was about 50 years ago. :)

First, you are welcome and thank you. I don't get an annual flu shot. I can't recall ever getting one in my entire life. Don't get me wrong, I take precautions. I watch what I do, where I go, how I interact with certain people and the environment, take my daily vitamins and minerals, drink filtered water, etc. It has served me well. :)

Sounds like a very good plan ru. May I ask WHY you have never gotten a flu vaccine? Jim and I get them yearly and haven't had colds in years. Now I don't know how old you are. I'm 82 and Jim is 84 so we are very cognizant of trying to do what we can to stay healthy s we are aging. I do all the cooking and we eat mostly veggies and fruits and beans and whole grains and nuts and seeds. Occasionally we eat meat so we could very easily become vegetarians and not feel deprived. But we get annual physicals which include blood tests. Do you get annual physicals too? Some diseases are very stealthy and can sneak up on you. Thank you for your reply! :)

I'm 71 years old. I haven't had a cold in about 30 years either. I don't get a flu vaccine mainly because I don't trust what they put in it. I have heard from several people, including my daughter, that they had gotten sicker after they had the vaccine than they would have if they had gotten the flu. That said, I don't get shots or take a prescription medication just to try to prevent something. If I do get sick, I will act accordingly. Frankly, it's something I don't worry about. I guess you could say that I live my life without fear of what this world can throw at me. However, as I mentioned above, I do take care of myself but I prefer to do it without man-made chemical dependency. I'm not advocating that everyone live there life as I do I'm just saying what has worked for me all of these years. :)

You're 71? Hah! I thought you were younger. That's a compliment by the way. Well if it works for you then that's fine. Jim and I are RELIGIOUS about getting all the shots required including the pneumonax shot for pneumonia prevention. Then there is one to prevent lockjaw or something. Of course you don't get those yearly as you do FLU vaccines. Keep up the good health ru and thank you for your reply. Happy Thursday!

  • Influenza and pneumonia will create shortness of breath, as will heart disease, as I discovered about 18 months ago.

I am very sorry to hear that HG. How are you doing currently? Years ago I had DOUBLE PNEUMONIA and I don't recall experiencing shortness of breath. But that was 50 years ago so I may just not remember it. It must be very frightening to not be able to "catch your breath". But it seems to have been very helpful in finding out what was going on with you health-wise. I wonder what we'd do if we never any symptoms of health problems? I'm going to ask. Thank you for your reply. Take care. Do what the doctor tells you do. NO EXCEPTIONS right?

Yes.  Of course, I get shortness of breath with ANY sickness (pneumonia, bronchitis, flu, common cold - you name it!)

I cannot recall ever experiencing it due to disease Shuhak. Maybe it's just that I don't remember it. I think not being able to breath easily must be terrifying. Thank you for your reply! :)

I quit smoking several years ago, haven't suffered from shortness of breath since despite almost annual bouts of colds and now and again the dreaded MAN flu. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at March 4, 2020 3:59 AM MST

Congrats on being a FORMER smoker R! Kudos to you too. Shortness of breath must be terrifying. I don't recall ever experiencing it due to a disease even when I had double pneumonia. Could be faulty memory at play here. That's a great good. Having a symptom that prompted you to quit something that was harming you. I'm going ask a relevant question which is "what we do if we never experienced any symptoms of disease or other harmful conditions?" I wonder how many folks would just die? Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday! :)

I quit for reasons having noting to do with my health - in Australia, the habit is EXPENSIVE, like a dollar per cigarette (more with some brands). Even though I preferred to smoke a pipe, the tax on tobacco is levied on a 'pro-rata' basis - so the price of pipe tobacco also became extortionate.
