Speechless. It is very difficult to find a calm, cool, logical way to discuss something so disgusting isn't it? After all these years what has changed? Thanks to Trump. He has provided a forum for racists and brought them out from under the rocks where they have been all along apparently. The ALT RIGHT WHITE folks. I never heard of them before. Now I see they will hold an exalted place in anything Trump. They are his people. He is their guy. Sigh. Thank you for your thoughtful and helpful reply Huw and Happy Saturday to you! :)

He didn't cause it. It's just that the racists are so filled with rage and hate they can't shut up about it. Thank you for your reply Charlie. Sad isn't it? :( Happy Saturday. :)

Apologies for causing you to take to your bed MrWitch. I saw/heard her from beginning to end and she was very  serious about what she said. She BELIEVES IT. It makes one wonder how many of Trump's people are precisely and exactly like her?  All of them I would guess. Every single one of them. If their IQ's can be measured it is surely below normal. Of course someone like this would be one of Trump's gang. Where else would she go?  Some of them appear on Answermug threads and they all sound alike. They all have the same beliefs. They all think Trump is swell as he** and everyone not-for-Trump sucks. Simple. Unvarnished. Unapologetic. They are not the brightest lights in the universe. Thank you for your thoughtful answer MrWitch and the links which I shall click on next and Happy Saturday to you m'dear! :).

You know I admire you m2c. You're smart, knowledgeable and fair. Almost all the time. But you do have a blind spot.  We all do. In this case you truly believe it is people like me who talk about what is going on vis a vis racism who exacerbate the situation. Racism in America is a HUGE problem. To pretend otherwise is just burying your head in the sand. Bringing it out, pointing it out, talking about it every single time another example occurs puts the spotlight on it. Mike Pence said "set aside the talk". He was referring to racism and cops shooting unarmed black men. I think he was speaking specifically about Charlotte, North Carolina. He isn't comfortable talking about racism. I don't know of any Republican/Conservative who is. It is the Liberals/Dems who keep pointing it out  and of course we get attacked for doing it. Now you cannot help how you think and neither can I.,It is how your brain is wired and you can no more change that than I can change how my brain is wired. What makes sense to you usually makes sense to me too. But once in awhile it doesn't. This would be one of those "doesn't" times. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)

Thank you for your reply ITp and Happy Saturday to thee! :) I don't know if we shall ever know the "why". We opine based upon our political views . That's as good as it's gonna get. Sadly.

Rosie and others: We CAN "help how [we] think! If we couldn't there'd be no hope for the human race -and no point in being human at all. And education would be impossible.

We can all recognize facts; we can face them; we can use them to correct our false or meaningless beliefs, we can clarify our moral standards and use them to criticize and correct our own feelings, attitudes, actions and habits, and then we can work toward sharing our corrected thinking with other people.

To deny this is to declare the whole educational enterprise, everywhere and everywhen -and my whole life's work, just to make this statement personal- utterly vain and worthless.

I think, Charlie, that you mean that it has come out into the open -that Mr. Obama's presidency has provoked the quiescent smoldering racism that has always been there to break out into such forms as McConnel's effort to "ensure that Obama will be a one-term President;: the Southern Republican opposition to everything the Obama administration proposed over 88 years, including funding the fight against even the zika virus; the clearly racist Trump campaign, police killings of blacks, etc. It is true that racism has become far more overt than it was for a couple of decades, but it has always been there.
