Do you enjoy old movies better than the new, violent, nasty, hideous ones?

I do. I know I need to be desensitized.

    I quite agree:

    "Bambi": great movie

    Killbill: A violent piece of crap.

    That's a strange question, Marguerite. I have seen violent, nasty, hideous movies that are at least 30 years old, and I have also seen newer movies that aren't a bit violent, nasty or hideous.

    Actually, JakobA, they are both good movies. They are enjoyable in vastly different ways.

    What do you consider an "old" movie? I like what I like.

    I go to http://thepiratebay.se and search for 195* to find all movies released 1950 to 1959. That was the era of good taste. (And swashbucklers!)

    I like some old movies, they have a special charm about them, but I do much prefer the new ones of all kinds.

    Film making is more accessible than it used to be, so you get all kinds of people making what they find interesting or what they think people should see. It's great! There is so much creativity and diversity out there if you look for it. I really think we live in a great time for art.

    The nation is collapsing. One symptom is a general rejection of traditional morality and all standards of excellence. That is why you see shows about unrelated goofballs sharing an apartment instead of a shows about strong family relationships. That is why you see art involving religious symbols bathed in bodily fluids. And every generation's preferred music style is less melodic than the style that went before it. Even Cinderella has been remade with reversed gender roles. This is not creativity, it is rebellion.

    Yep.  There are good films being made today; you have to look at the independents and foreigns.  There are some great films in family and Christian genres too.  Christian movies aren't necessarily religious in nature, they are just suitable for the whole family to watch and usually include moral points as well.  They can be  a breath of fresh air if you have let yourself soak up and suffocate in the regular crappy vulgar violent big gun nudity and sex-filled blockbusters of today.  Geesh!!!

    Why do you need to be desensitized?

    I'm fond of vintage (eighties/nineties) sci-fi and comedy.  I see (via DVD or video on demand) maybe one or two new movies a year--tops.

    Well, if a movie is 30 years old, it's old, isn't it? Lots of people alive today had not yet been born then, and many of them are now old enough to watch an age-restricted movie.

    Maybe, but the fashions sucked. The 1970s were a much better decade for that, and there were also plenty of good movies around in those days. Lol:)
