Have you had any problems returning anything to a store recently?

We bought some chicken yesterday. When we got home opened it to cook, it was bad. We froze it and went to take to back today. They tried to tell us, they could not take returns/exchanges. After going back and forth, we got the manager and he okayed an exchange.
I understand clothes etc right now. But you cannot refuse to take care of bad meat you sold to a customer.

I could understand them not wanting to handle it physically but you should have just been able to show your receipt and get the credit back. And no, I haven’t tried to exchange anything. I barely even leave my freakin house and I hate it.

We did not plan to get back out but it $15 worth of chicken.  That is what we told them we can throw it out but we wanted our money or some good chicken. We got the exchange for good chicken. :)

Never a problem if I had the receipt with me to prove the purchase.

In our small rural area, reputation is everything to a business. If any of them refused, word would go round the 80,000 people of the valley in under a week and the business would go bankrupt from boycotts within weeks. This post was edited by inky at April 20, 2020 7:24 PM MDT

Normally we do not have a problem either. They said it was a new policy that started today because of Covid19. We did have our reciept.  We did get the manager to okay it.  If not next step would have been an email to corporate. I have had to do that once before it does make things happen. :)

I think it's an important service to others in the community to hold businesses to account.

I liked Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People." The title sounds horribly Machiavelian, but it was a treatise on what creates the surest success in business and salesmanship: honesty, integrity and providing the services and product the customer actually wants and needs.

I wish those ethics did not seem to be so much amiss these days.

Yes, it is sad. I have found normally it is the regular workers that need tought customer service. Managers are usually better. But of course sometimes that is because the regular workers do not have the authority to make the call themselves.

I can print shipping labels and stamps from my home. I found no use for it anymore since I can just use a windows program almost for free.

Ok. That is what I thought but $600 threw me. I have a scale from Stamps.com that works with their website. But it was only like $50. You must have had a really fancy one.

The comma after the word “us” is unnecessary.

“No grammar checks”? That’s just plain sacrilege, it’s blasphemy, it’s a call for anarchy!  What will you call for next, sharp knives plunged into my neck and chest?  Grrrrrrrrrr.

I would have said to them I will tell everyone I know they are selling tainted food. They would have a change in heart as they are so popular here.

Yep. That definately would have happened as well. If they had not exchanged it.

I've not had that problem with meat, but I have had that problem with milk.  However, I usually shop about half an hour away from where I live and it didn't seem practical to get in the car and go back to the store.  The next time I went shopping, I took my receipt with me and told the manager and he credited my account.  I find that too many people decide they don't want an item and drop it wherever they are.  If it's an item that needs refrigeration, it can sit there for a while before anyone notices and then the store clerks will then put it back.  In the interim, it starts to go bad.  At least put the item in some refrigerated place if you don't want it and you don't want to go back to where you found it.

They''re probably the same ones who leave their carts right where their car is rather than walk two feet to return them to the proper area.
