Where's the appropriate place to set your bag/ purse down when you're visiting a friend or family member?

Is there an etiquette rule here?

Don't know if there's an etiquette rule, but if I'm putting my bag down somewhere, it's in the home of someone I know, not a stranger, so I put it somewhere out of the way, but where I can access is quickly if I need it.

I generally put it on the floor next to my feet. The bottom of your bag can be germy and should never be put on furniture.

My wife is Asian, and in her culture there is a superstition against putting a purse on the floor or in the ground because it means you’ll lose your money some day.

    Never put your Bag/Purse down,
    Always keep it your possession.

If you're a woman planning to spend an evening having dinner with friends, you're not likely to keep your bag in your hands the whole time.

How many times do I have to keep reminding you?  It’s not a purse, it’s European!  Grrrrrr.
