Why do the "F" and "J" keys on a keyboard have bumps?

And more importantly, did you even realize they had bumps before now? O_o

When you learn to touch type (without looking at the keys), those are the two keys where your hands are supposed to be to hit all the other keys.

Touch typing.   Pointer fingers go on F and J (home row), thumbs on spacebar.  All keys are able to be accessed easily from this position.

When you learn to touch type,
your index fingers stay (most of the time) in contact with the F and J keys.

It's the feel that tells you where you are,
helps find the relative positions of the other keys,
    makes faster speed possible.

They are just landmarks on the Keyboard highway.  To let you know where the middle is.

Holy F key. I never noticed that. Do cellphone keypads have bumps there, too?

    Only two?

I'd have guessed at least two pairs of bumps, depending on the definition of bump, and the angle of view.

I have seen photos....she was blonde and had three perfectly formed boobs...it's strangers as they diddn't look out of place...
Its not as uncommon as you'd think....here have been females born with eighteen going down their bodies in two lines ...when nature messes up ,it creates all sorts of deformities in every living growing thing...Plus there is not one single living growing thing that has not suffered any changes in their structures as they evolve...most so they can servive and improve and we don't get to see that many of natures cock ups ....Maybe that's also why humans in power lie about the the terrible things they have brought about and done or had a ha d in doing....

Helps real typists stay on the correct letters without looking.

Old cell phones with actual keypads and some remotes have a bump on the number five again so you know where you are on the keys without looking.

An old phone of mine somehow got a friend of my son's Mother on speed dial #5.  She said we called her all the time. No telling how many minutes we burned not knowing it.  She said was always worried we were might be "saying or doing anything she would really not want to hear."
Anyway I got that fixed right after she told me.

For purposes of decorum, I was forced to answer this in a private message.  (Cough, cough.)
