I'm picturing a women who is very nice, plump, and sweet.
    The name itself is innocent.

It is the slang rendition that makes this name feel possibly sour for a person.*

This was a hard question to answer without someone feeling attacked or put down.
I am hoping they know, not everyone judges a person by the name they were given.

*Please note.  Person does not limit itself to female gender. :)

Isn’t that more of a nickname than a common given name?

I didn’t say that it does. I added that to my response for the sake of emphasis. I have a cousin whose given name is Cherry, and I know there are others who have it as their first name, it’s just not a common first name.

The question is specifically worded as “first name”. A first name is not a nickname.

      Nice try, no cigar.

I can be.  I don't know what it would be short for?...
Charlene?  Chariot? No.  I've never known anyone named Chariot.  Now there would be a name people might take advantage of.
Speaking of names, I have known some that are very peculiar.
They don't lead you into thinking sexual or sensual thoughts but they aren't names I would think to name a child.
This question leads to many other questions that may be asked.
It has potential to be a "touchy" subject, though.
I know I'm not out to hurt anybody and I'm pretty sure no one else is either.
I might be walking on thin ice if I venture out and ask about names.
... These are the reasons I don't ask many questions and stick to answering them...
    Asking them is one thing.
    Answering them is another.
    ;) :)!

    You’ve confused me.

Saying that it’s a nickname doesn’t mean it‘s short for another name.

The question specifically states “first name”, not first and last names.

Isn’t that more of a nickname or stage name than a given name?

I won't answer that as it may offend women here with that name.
