Unfortunately, she passed away at 88 in March. She also was among the first female stock brokers on Wall Street, and didn't retire from that until her 80th birthday in 2011.
Only a few months ago. Stu, I had no idea you were going through such momentous changes in your life. It's sad to lose someone so loved, even when they've lived such a long life. I hope her end was not a difficult one. I've always thought one of the best things about being a professional is the ability to keep on working on your own terms for as long as you like -- can help keep a person at their best. Apart from her love of language and her agile mind, what were some of her other characteristics? What do you remember most about her?
My mother read to my brother and I every night. I don't remember anything before The Hardy Boysmystery books.
I vaguely remember looking over at the page as she was reading, and realizing I knew what the words were. I don't remember how old I was, but it was before Kindergarden, so probably 2-3 years old.
But you should say, "My brother read to my brother and me." I was explaining why that is the correct way to say it, because you would say she "read to to me," not "read to I."
Dad read to me before bed, as I was a very small boy. Then I eventually read to him, as I started to learn how. We loved the Dr. Seuss books, among some other good ones. They were fun and enjoyable. Good memorable times we had reading and listening.
