Who knows where anyone is at anymore?

  • The alerts are one of my biggest issues here. There should be a way to delete them without having to click on all of them to get them to go away. It's irritating as all get out to have to click on the same blasted question over and over to get all the alerts to go bye-bye. All the other sites I've ever been on has had the option to delete alerts without actually having to click on them. IMO this is worse than just not having any alerts.

  • I don't know if you know this but once you click the notification item in the notification list to review it, it goes away... This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at October 7, 2016 4:10 PM MDT

  • I do know that maybe the first two or three will, but after that it stops deleting them. If that worked, I never would have made the comment about them. I have a ton of them that simply will not go away no matter how many times I click on them.

  • I have used Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox, I get the same results with all three of them.

  • Me too, as well as TOR, Avant, Safari, and I just started messsing with Palemoon. I also use a Desktop, tablet, and a MAC.
    That's weird.
I do notice some differences that are unrelated to notifications with a couple of them, but I won't go into those

  • Also when I click on an 'alert' it takes me to either the top of the page of the question, or the last page of the answers. It never takes to to what was commented on, liked or anything else. If it's not going to take you to what was actually alerted on, what use are they?

Not for me.  I can click that bell two or three times and it shows me different things...............kind of Twilight Zonish.   I mentioned it to Ms. Ja and can live with it.  She is covered up and has life things to do too.  I'm retired and living the life so I can be patient.

  • Not on my browsers.  Palemoon, Iron, iceweasle( on my linux OS), and Opera all keep them from deleting in any way.  Except the "like" notifications, they go away when clicked.

If you click on your alerts bell and  clcik on "See All Notifications" (at the bottom)  it will bring to your notifications in your profile. Go to the bottom of the page and click "Mark as Read".

    Should get rid of them.

  • I've done that and it didn't get rid of them.

They are still there but you are not told they are new.

  • Yep, they are still there and it's irritating. Why don't we have the option to delete them? Why do we have to click on the same question so many times? Every time someone replies to something I've commented on I get an alert. Even when I have unsubscribed from it.  Every other site I'm on has the option to delete the alerts.

  • That needs improvement. There should be a way to clean them up and get rid of them.

Are you accessing the questions from the HOME tab or the QUESTIONS tab?

Sounds like a crazy question on my part, but if you use the HOME tab to view the questions, everything seems to come "alive" and you see comments pop up in real time.

I was astounded at the difference.

  • That is not happening for me. I still have to refresh the page to see new comments.

If you've cleared your cache and are still having issues, you must have a plugin or extension that is affecting the way the browser handles the site. The base version of Chrome does not exhibit the problems you're having. If it was an issue with the site, people like GoatJumper and I would be having the same problem when we use Chrome. We don't.

You can't see anyone if you're not here. I've been looking for you and Mr. Bromide. I even posted a question asking for you all... Nothing.

You just have to get used to it. Last night I chatted with somebody. Don't remember who, but it was fun. I'll probably be here this evening and you can chat with me, that is, if you want.

Don't get discouraged. There are many more things happening on this earth besides politics.

    Marg,

I like recognition and no one can even see me or read me.   I am all about being a presence.  Where am I now?  Just a zero on a page of people not even paying any attention to one another past 5 minutes or so.  Kind of frustrating to have a back and forth this way.

But, I guess we have gotten used to much more than this.  I am really irritated that I cannot get any pictures to download and I am stuck with this cheesy, generic avatar.   That is pissing me off.  And the chat room is just "too intimate".  I want to talk to anybody not a certain person.   That makes it tough on who you are contacting.

"This is so hard to get used to l Isn't this like what they tried to do to AB when they changed it 5 years ago and everyone left because of that? This is something I will probably like when I can see how it works better." 9/29/13

"I think I liked the old Answer Bag alert format a lot better with the way members interacted. Now I have little interaction and do not know if anyone is even reading what I say. That is NEVER good for Towel. I hate being ignored ever." 12/20/15

Those quotes were from you when you tried to adapt to the old Mug, two different times. You hated it at first. You couldn't figure out how to find people, how to interact, or how to post photos. Now, we do have some of the features AB had, like the notifications, which should make it easier for you to track who is talking to you and help you keep up with people.

In time, once you get used to the format, I think you'll do just fine. I'm sorry you're frustrated right now, but we'll do our best to coach you through things until it's second nature. If all else fails, we can meet up for that cup of coffee and I'll tutor you. ;)

You are doing a great job.  This is just the weekly thermometer as to how everyone is adjusting.  I am definitely not here to argue against those who love it already.   I want to hear how to move forward.

You are doing the great job of attending to anyone who has a beef, real or imagined on our parts.  Thank you for YOUR patience.

I think I agree with you, Sharonna, though I need to give this format a chance to get used to it. But I now have to scroll down so much of the page to get to the point of anything, there are advertisements everywhere, members names don't appear at the top of their profile pages, making it hard to figure out who they are (I only ever see my own name) and my personal details and friends list no longer appear on my profile page. I had to reset my information, but it still does not appear on my profile.

I'm not sure what happened to your answer. I wonder if you typed it outside the text box and then pasted it in? It forms one big line, so you can only see part of it. I copied and pasted it into word so I could read it all.

All your profile info is on your profile page, but you have to click the red "More" tab to get to it. I did ask the devs to add member names to the profile, but until that comes through, you can cheat and look below their profile photo for the "poke" button. That says their name.

I didn't increase the number of ads here, but the spacing has changed. Is there a particular page it's problematic on? I can see if there are some hacks to move content up more... like maybe removing the "breadcrumb" menu that tells you what part of the site you're on in the questions. I'm not sure that's necessary and will move content up. I do have the members above the activity feed... I did that more as a sentimental thing- the members are what matters sort of deal, but I can bump that off to the side if it helps as well...
