Do You Seriously Believe Trump Ever Wanted To Be President?
After a seemingly endless cycle of surging in the polls followed by 'surprise' revelations that Trump is a scumbag, does anyone really believe he was or wanted to be a serious contender for La Casa Blanca?
You know, either he is the world's biggest narcissist and believes his own spiel or like you said, never thought he would actually get this far.
I never thought about that angle of it, but it's very possible. I know I am stunned the Republicans put him in considering their platform of the past. Remember when they used to tout their "Family Values"? smh.
"Republicans put him in" because he was the only candidate giving voice to the sentiments of the rank and file. Trump isn't popular because he's a paragon of virtue or intellectual deft. He's popular because he's not "one of them."
To understand Trump's rise to power you have to understand the people who put them there. They're not the racist scum which the media like to portray them as being. They're working people who have to struggle daily for everything they have. They're traditionalists with traditional American values of strength, independence, and some basic sense of morality and fair play.
Trump may not represent all those values, but he at least understands them in the abstract. That's ten times more than we can say about ANY member of the groomed political elite.
I never said he would help the working class. I said he could identify with them. That alone sets him apart from the groomed elite who honestly could not care less about the working class.
And you're right: most politicians can't do anything to improve the economy beyond setting policies which provide a favorable environment for the economy to flourish (grow).
What Glis said. I do not believe he thought he would get as far as he did, but now that he has, he cannot quit for the sake of his own vanity. Trump wanted to use this opportunity to voice his own opinions so that the whole nation would listen to them, and for better or for worse, it ended up being what a lot of Americans wanted to hear. Now he has no real choice but to continue, but there's a part of me that thinks he will be greatly relieved if he loses.
I think Trump was/is a spoiler. I still fully expect him to beg out (or commit some act so atrocious as to make the point moot) 'just in time' to make replacing him impossible.
Thanks? Hmmm. Maybe not so much as he considers it a return on his initial investment in the Clintons. :-)

I really do believe he wants it ... He's all about power. . That's what money if fire and being the prez is the ultimate power trip .. The problem is he's always been surrounded by yes men and his own misplaced sense of self worth ... There's an academic belief that some people are so incompetent that they can't see it ... He's a perfect living example
The pinheads on Faux are touting the theory that the whole reason he ran was to get even for Obama's public humiliation of him during a Whitehouse Correspondents' dinner (video below).
And I believe the academic theory of which you speak is called anosognosia.
Well, I'm NOT a pinhead at FOX, but Trump is a man who NEVER forgives and insult.. Did I say NEVER. If I didn't, lemme say it now - NEVER.. Trump was humiliated at the correspondents dinner, and THAT'S why he ran. It was NEVER about the country.. It was NEVER about policy. It was ALWAYS about getting even - like 9 year old's do...
