I didn't have a choice, so I joined the Navy as I didn't want to go to Nam. I stayed for 20 years. About half- way through I decided I wanted to become a science teacher. I did and retired from that after 20. Now I have nothing to do but this as some physical ailments are keeping me from doing some things I used to enjoy.
I aimed my high school courses for business, and after a few years working for a similar business, I started my own business as I had aimed for. However, after 15 years, I got frustrated with that business and got out.
I have wanted to be a lot of things during my lifetime: an architect, engineer, doctor, marine biologist, biochemist. One of those dreams came true; I became a marine biologist although being a marine conservation biologist for the government is much less glamorous than I expected - good retirement benefits though. So, overall it was a good thing.
I worked at a nursery where the landscape designers were openly gay. They were very skilled, too. :) Anyways, it's natural, isn't it? The beauty of nature, in all its varieties... Thanks for sharing.
At one time I intended to obtain an officer's commission in the Black Watch. One of my uncles was going to put in a good word or two with his old army mates to help things along.
That was the idea until I was 12, when illness got in the way.
When I was in high-school I wanted to be a psychiatrist or an architect.
I wound up being a cosmetologist, a legal secretary, a court reporter and a massage therapist. I don't make any money at it, but I also draw and paint.
