Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Way long ago when I was a kid I remember my mom deep-frying anything she could in oil. Shrimp chicken french fries whatever. Today?
What does Maureen deep fry usually R? I remember my mom made a "killer" fried chicken! Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday to you and yours! Oh do you ever go into the kitchen to cook a "specialty" of yours?
Chips (French fries to you Americans - although they're not the slightest bit French) are about all that gets deep fried. We're both more likely to pan fry anything else - just enough olive oil to prevent sticking.
You call fries "chips"? What do you call "potato chips"? Jim is fan of olive oil. I like the EXTRA LIGHT because I dislike the taste of oil. He likes the EXTRA VIRGIN. I know there's a joke in there somewhere! Thank you for your reply R! :)
What you call "chips" are properly called "crisps".
Potatoes sliced into sticks and fried is a Belgian invention, but the British embraced them more wholeheartedly than anywhere on the Continent and eat them far more frequently than the Belgians or the French partake of "pommes frites". Fried fish with chips (thick cut and dressed not with ketchup but with vinegar) is the English national dish - and spread to the rest of the former Empire. It's a staple in Australia too - particularly after a day at the beach.
I like the word "CRISPS". Kinda classy sassy in a good way. Remember a few years back some dumba** republicans got mad at France and began calling "French fries" FREEDOM FRIES? Geez I never could get over the depth of the stupid dumb necessary to think up that. The stupid dumb died over time. SIGH. Thank you for your informative reply R and Happy Thursday to thee and thine! :)
Yes. We deep fry regularly. Fries, fish, corn dogs. We use olive oil. It is the healthiest. Our good cholesterol is about 30 pts higher than recommended.
I'm sure I must have told you this before m2c. Years ago I had a job that required me to travel to Tulsa twice a year to do internal audits of a company that was doing some work for us. It was there that I tasted my very first HUSH PUPPY! And FRIED OKRA! AND CHICKEN FRIED STEAK! I thought I died and went to heaven. They were SO GOOD!. I wasn't a big fan of the way they did their "greens" though. Cooked to death in bacon grease is not my favorite way to eat veggies. Years ago I used to make Coconut Shrimp on occasion. That was delicious but it did require deep frying. I can't remember the last time I friend anything. Thank you for your reply! :)
Did your mom deep fry anything when you were a kid? Years ago I used to make Coconut Shrimp which required deep frying. I cannot remember the last time I deep friend anything. We've been here in Hemet almost 13 years and I have never deep friend anything here. My mom used to deep fry shrimp as wlll. Coated of course. She loved shrimp and we did too. Gosh that was so long ago and far away. Thank you for your reply E and Happy Thursday to thee! :)
Lucky you! Once we had a neighbor who was from the south and we had her and her daughter over for dinner. She reciprocated with a down home southern fried chicken dinner. BEST WE EVER HAD! Biscuits and gravy I think are a REQUIREMENT. MMM MMM GOOD! Thank you for your reply E. Still nothing from D?

An AIR FRYER? May I ask what brand and where you bought it? Years ago there was a shopping center with a food court and one of the stalls was an Air Fryer place. My husband wanted to find one we could use at home but we never did. So what is the taste like? AWESOME I guess of you use it that much. Thank you for your reply KtS and Happy Thursday to you and yours! :)
