    kraken

Pen and wash drawing of a colossal octopus by malacologist Pierre Dénys de Montfort, 1801

The kraken (/ˈkrɑːkən/)[1] is a legendary cephalopod-like sea monster of gigantic size in Scandinavian folklore. According to the Norse sagas, the kraken dwells off the coasts of Norway and Greenland and terrorizes nearby sailors. Authors over the years have postulated that the legend may have originated from sightings of giant squids that may grow to 13–15 meters (40–50 feet) in length. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the kraken have made it a common ocean-dwelling monster in various fictional works

The Kraken (I don't know the singular and plural forms of the word) in this book, for me, would not improve the world - - they scared me a lot! Great book!

  • This creature is the best for when you need something scary to release.

    :) For me, yes!

I admit I  had never heard of the creature until John Wyndham's book. I've read all of his books and that one particularly got to me in scary but good ways. I highly recommend any of Wyndham's books! (I read this book under its alternate title of "Out of the Deeps" but I prefer Wyndham's original title of "The Kraken Wakes.")

I take your gif here is from an actual movie. I've not seen it, I don't think.

    Thanks.
    :)

Yeah, I didn't catch any of those movies. I maybe saw the original one but I'm unsure.

I love Wyndham's books. A little dated now, but still ripping yarns. The Day of the Triffids, The Midwich Cuckoos (filmed as Village of the Damned), The Chrysalids ...

A satyr. It might reinvigorate a few ailing bloodlines.
