Matthew was ridiculously underwhelming for Orlando.

It obliterated the coastlines, yes, but they were acting as if it was going to decimate Orlando as well. It knocked some leaves off of trees, but other than that there was nothing more to it. No flooding, not much damage, nothing. Amazing what a stark difference 30-40 miles can make in a hurricane.

    Maybe one day you'll have something horrible to complain about.

    Does it sound like I'm complaining? I'm not? I'm complaining about how the news was making it seem like something terrifying when I've seen thunderstorms stronger than that, if anything.

    Prayer does jack sh*t. Look what it did to the coastline. There is no god, get over it.

    Would you be happier if they had said nothing devastating would happen in Orlando and then all hell broke loose and there was significant damage?  Why don't you count your lucky stars instead of complaining?

    It is amazing what a few miles can make with any storm.  Alls you have to do is look at a radar image and see where the edge of a storm lays.  Look how tornadoes can mow down one side of a street and leave the other side untouched.

    Glad the hurricane didn't do more damage than it did.

    I used to want to study meteorology. Now I'm doing Mathematics, but I can't turn down a good storm :D

    That was my dream too.  Never happened, but I do watch with interest with any severe weather event.

    I might end up achieving one of my dreams though--my college does have the lightning lab and I've already talked to them about doing research with them. :D

    Cool!

    I have a website that tracks lightning in real time, anywhere in the industrial world.  It's cool because you can zoom in tight on your own location during an approaching storm and see where the lightning is hitting.  In case you don't already have it, here you go.

    http://www.lightningmaps.org/#y=39;x=-102.6857;z=5;t=3;m=sat;r=0;s=0;o=0;b=;n=0;d=2;dl=2;dc=0;
