I assume that's sweat and not tears? ;)

Between the heat/humidity and the smell of paper mills, it's not somewhere I'd ever choose to live again.

I think it might even be a combination of sweat and tears. Heck, who knows what these ‘lennials mean when they come up with these things?

Sweat and Tears. That could easily be the title of a song or story about my time living in south Georgia!

    :)

If you know of a place where there aren't rude people and bad drivers, please share!

    And where I live now.

I find the farther south you get the nicer the people get.

The place my husband is from had exceptionally rude people. I was in shock when I moved at first. Even at a drive thru no "Thank you, Have a nice Day" they just handed you your food and closed the window.  When you put on your blinker to change lanes they thought that meant to speed up so you could not get over.

I try not to generalize, but I get what you're saying about southerners. However, not everyone has that same hospitable experience, from what I observed when I lived in southern states.

Good that you're happy where you live now!

My very first day in the south (the state of North Carolina), when I stopped at a gas station to ask for directions to the Marine Corps base, a man in his 60s or 70s called me “boy” as he answered me. I was about 25 years old at the time. It was quite a telling omen of how the next three years would eventually play out. I’ve always referred to that chapter of my life as my three-year sentence.  When I received orders to transfer to San Diego at the end of those three years, I jumped on the opportunity with both feet.

Yep. That sounds about right, and exactly what I was referring to! When I first lived in a southern state, I was a very, very young woman. Like, not even old enough to drink alcohol young! I was astounded and even felt a bit embarrassed by the way much older people of color addressed me as "ma'am" or "miss". I was raised to believe that younger people should address older people as ma'am and sir, not the other way around. Of course, I returned their terms of respect when addressing them. I'm not kidding, they always looked surprised.

It's these stories and scenarios that I wish certain people would truly hear and accept as truth, rather than pretend that there's no such thing as white privilege.

Lack of air conditioning.  Back then many people didn't have the luxury.  Today I consider it a necessity.  I keep a portable in the closet just in case the central goes out.
