I thought of adding that to my answer, too. I have my shades pulled at night but if night's natural light comes through, that's cool.

    Totally dark,
    Which is impossible because of
    Router lights, Cable box lights,
    Computer stuff...

Could you not just turn off everything off at the mains socket when not using it, except perhaps the router - or even that too?

Or at least turn the things to face away from your bed if their lights are a nuisance.

Though they are not in my bedroom, my PC and printers are fed from a 4-way socket board plugged into one of a twin switched socket, the router PSU is alone in the other; so I can leave the router on as apparently advised but close the computer and turn off the supply to it and everything else.  I also turn off my portable radios' leads at the mains since discovering their alleged On/Off switches are on the wrong side of the internal power-supply units.

I have a small night-light near the door so I don't trip over the cat.

Enough light so I can stumble to the bathroom without breaking my toe. Or my nose.

I prefer fairly deep darkness and my bedroom is at times despite no curtains (it is not closely overlooked). I don't like it so dark I cannot focus on something if I awake, but nights where I live are rarely so dark I cannot see the sky as a pair of very slightly lighter rectangles.  Heavy overcast glows slightly yellow by reflected street-light.

There is also a very faint bluish glow from a clock/radio next to the bed, facing somewhat away from me.

Facing South though, the room does catch the moonlight!

I prefer a small light of minimum but perceptible luminescence that originates from a fixed location---something whose location is known to me and by seeing which I can immediately orientate myself in the room.

Interesting - I find that too.

Usually an un-curtained window is enough, even on the darkest, cloudless, Moon-less Winter nights.

I did once wake in some distress in an outdoor-pursuits club dormitory, totally disorientated because someone had innocently hung a blanket from a neighbouring bunk, blocking my view of the window.

    As dark as possible.

I have no devices or whatever that show light/give off light all the time. This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at November 27, 2022 8:10 AM MST

I like a little bit of light on so I can see to go to the bathroom when I need to.

I know the feeling! I have a small, wind-up l.e.d. lantern for finding my way; and a battery-operated cupboard light on the bathroom mirror. This is so I am not disturbed further by bright light.
