      In my family, there’s no concept of waiting until the children begin attending school to start teaching them how to read.

    Who made that up? Bad parenting at its finest. I had too many students with very poor reading skills. High school.

      Come on, as I’m sure you saw, reading wasn’t the only thing they were not taught at home before starting school.

      There’s an old tradition in Black families wherein we save the hair from a boy’s first haircut and it ensures he’ll be successful or intelligent or strong, etc.
