Where do we all have amateur's where we should have professionals?

    Jury duty might be might be one of those places, but maybe there should be a mix of professional and citizen jurors.  A problem with citizen juries is that people who aren't very good looking or somewhat awkward may be more likely to receive a guilty verdict than a more likable person, or maybe if they're the victim the jury would less likely be to convict the perpetrator.  I think a professional jury might take care of some of those problems, but I don't think they would vote to nullify an unjust law if someone is charged with breaking one.  There's still not a perfect system, because I would hope a jury would nullify an unjust law, but historically, in the post-Civil War south, juries refused to convict white people for crimes against black people, so jury nullification could either be a justice or an injustice.

      Sort of like the case from about a decade ago wherein a schoolteacher had been found guilty of having sex with a minor student, at sentencing, the judge (a professional) stated that even though incarceration was an option, he did not order any time behind bars because the defendant was too good-looking to go to jail.
