No. We used to have skunks in the canyons surrounding us, but in the 18 years we’ve lived in this house, each year there have been fewer and fewer of them.

I wonder if coyotes scared them off or killed them off.

No, there are no roadrunners for them to chase.

We can send you both. You don't have enough invasive species.

      How about the evasive ones?

They've just reintroduced western quolls and greater bilbies to the Flinders Ranges (I just got back from camping up there for a few days), now that calicivirus has done a number on the rabbits and following a massive cull of feral goats and cats. They had been driven to extinction in the wild, but captive breeding and reclaiming the habitat may preserve the two species. The eastern quoll didn't live there, the lesser bilby is extinct already.

Yes. I actually got a half decent picture of one a few years ago. I was extremely excited!

    You must be joking!

Coyotes are one of the most exciting species that still exist in the wild here. A nature photographer's dream!

I was out all day yesterday, thank you very much.

What's that on the plate on the right?

It’s the view from the upper deck balcony of one of my penthouse suites, this one is located near La Jolla Heights, California. The north-south highway is Interstate 5, which begins at the US/Mexico border and goes all the way to the US/Canada border.
The dish is Tofu Umber; I took into consideration that you’re a vegetarian and I had Chef whip up something special for you. It’s only the gentlemanly thing to do.

We now have pumas in our area. Now that is exciting. They will hopefully contain the deer population, which are pests here.

No WAY! That is extremely exciting! And yes, humans have so mismanaged the deer situation, starting with killing off their natural predators.

Other than an occasional escapee, we do not have pumas where I live. Maybe one day?

I haven't seen any but I know they are in the state.  I'm near the Gulf so I would think they would be inland in the forest.

No, but we have quite a few dingoes living up in the ranges above us.
I hear their mating calls - yodels - in the small hours at night in winter.
And occasionally around dawn or dusk, I see one passing along one of its tracks.
