Christ came to bring a new reality, not a new morality. And when that was accomplished in the Resurrection, it worked backwards as well as forward and---aside from death, which will not be conquered in this mode of existence---restored and enhanced man's relationship with his creator.
Edit: In a sense, "doing" has the side effect of "doing over."
