It's that darned hole you ("allegedly") put in my monitor.   Between it and the hardened pasta sauce, it's hard to see anything anymore.
BTW - "pitting" is technically correct.  Pitting - "to make a hollow or indentation in the surface of an object" (Oxford dictionary).
