But remember that, on hot button topics in particular, people have a hard time critically examining an issue on its own merits without contriving some sort of contextual connection which otherwise isn't there. If, for example, you post about the Islamic atrocity du jour, you're GUARANTEED a response relating to what Christians did 400+ years ago.
True and I would expect that counter in the second half of the response.
It just would be nice if people can answer the question about the person it's being asked about first without going right into their spiel for the other candidate or issue.
1) Exactly, and that, without careful management of one's responses, is precisely why certain topics cannot be discussed. Someone will invariably draw attention away from the original subject by forcing people to defend their positions on totally unrelated issues. If I say Islam is a twisted ideology and I state the reasons why I think so, people will respond with "oh, yeah, well Christianity is worse.." If I'm not careful I'll fall into the trap of defending Christianity when the original subject was something quite different. (Everyone is guilty of this form of evasion but, in my experience, liberal statists are masters at it! :-))
The same reason the question was asked in the first place. It was not intended as a question and the answers are not intended as answers. Such is life.
Very specific political questions are mostly very specific political attacks followed by a question mark so as to fit the format of the site. I do not think the person who asks two dozen questions per day about what is wrong with trump and trump supporters is doing it from curiosity. Because the question is written without good intent or respect there is no need to answer with either.
I had no one in mind when I put out the question ITpro. Sometimes a really good question will come up and it just perplexes me on why people don't try and answer them for what they are.
I am not a Trump supporter at all, but a few people have asked me to listen to some of the criticisms of Hillary. I didn't really want to since I know I have to make a decision on how to vote and I am leaning towards voting for her, but I also don't want to close my mind either.
I do agree that there are a lot of questions that aren't geared to a true discussion btw. Both sides do it every election. I try and avoid those questions myself.
It seems politics have become mostly about slandering the opposition. much more so than presenting a coherent platform of your own. And then the 'fans' of the politicians pick up the slanders and repeat them everywhere (including AM). That is sad.
