Is it racist to enjoy the music of Stephen Foster?

A lot of it has been bowdlerized, but some of the originals are shocking. Oh, Susannah is particularly horrendous.

  • No, I don't think so. I probably am not terribly interested in those songs in their original form, but I like how the composer Charles Ives interpolated some of Foster's tunes in his symphonies. :)
