What are two (or more) separate movies featuring a favorite actor or actress of yours that are so different in setting, character, genre, or

any other aspect of production that they are extremely good examples of his or her acting range and inability to be classified as typecast?

He’s one of the ones I thought of when I formed the question.

    Meg Ryan.

    When Harry Met Sally

When a Man Loves a Woman

In the latter she proved she was a serious artist with real talent.

David Niven. The Guns of Navarone was a serious war epic, The Pink Panther a comedy classic.

Robin Williams. Best known for comedies like Aladdin and Good Morning Vietnam, he also shone in the creepy thriller One Hour Photo and almost saved a terrible movie adaptation of Isaac Asimov's sf classic Bicentennial Man but was shot down by a truly awful script.

    I liked "One Hour Photo".

He was also great in "Dead Poets' Society", "Insomnia" and "Good Will Hunting". I preferred him in serious roles.

I was thinking of Robin Williams and some of his films.

I'll go with Bryan Cranston. His most famous TV roles were the rather ridiculous dad in "Malcolm in the Middle" and Walter White in "Breaking Bad"; very different characters. His film work has varied a lot, too; 'Why Him?' vs. 'Drive', for example.

"Philadelphia" and "Roman J Israel, Esquire". In each of them Denzel Washington plays an attorney, but the characters could hardly be more different.

Any movie with either of these two but I'll mention:

Veronica Cartwright        "The Witches of Eastwick"  (1987)

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers"  (1978)

    Guy Pearce                     "Ravenous"      (1999)

                                         "In Her Skin"     (2009)
