Director George Romero's original 1968 "Night of the Living Dead"
I saw it for the first time when I was 13. It remains my favorite movie.
(A scene from it is my avatar.)
EDIT: It was the first movie to really "overwhelm" me. Somehow that makes it my "first." No other movie comes close to the impact this movie has made upon my life.

I'm certainly familiar with it by the title and its popularity. But that'd be it.
I'm so biased to my taste - - regardless of the age I was when seeing movies, if I liked them as a young little guy, I still like them as an adult and would recommend them! I had incredibly good taste, even very young. Ha! I'd probably like your movie here. I think you've posted other parts of the movie here and there on the site - I think maybe the opening credits, with a woman dancing around a kitchen, while a song plays, maybe? :)
We didn't get hooked on movies when I was a kid. We saw movies at the Cinema once and once only. You enjoyed it or you didn't. I remember the Cinderella movie and how I could not get over how unfair life was for Cinderella. Her family treated her awfully. It affected me.
The Wizard Of Oz...West Side Story...To Sir With Love...Easy Rider...2001 A Space Odyssey...about that order.
