"Travesti" is Italian for "trousers". About a thousand years ago women wore dresses and did not expose even an ankle in public. But the opera companies figured out that men really really wanted to see the feminine form, so they concocted stories that involved a young female masquerading as a young male, and they wore really TIGHT pants. They would even get the girl up on a chair to be sure everybody got a good view.
Good answer, Jewels, and wittily put, but in all honesty who wants to see a young female masquerading as a young male? One doesn't have to look very far to see how good young women look in trousers, especially denim jeans. For example, which girl looks sexier on this picture? You decide.

I know it was awful. Just finished eating my last bite of macaroni and I noticed someone on the plate looking back at me. I was a Ronald McDonald plate and he was looking right at me. Wasn't ready for that at all. The macaroni was very good BTW. lol
