Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» As a kid did you play with water pistols and cap guns? Were they tons of fun? Do you "play" with real guns as an adult?
My friends and I used to shoot each other with bb guns...I think in today's world we would have probably all been charged with attempted murder. Water guns were always fun too. Especially when the Super Soakers came out.
Gee I forgot all about BB guns. Girls and boys had different toys. If you get hit with BB's do they hurt? They can't feel all that good. I think a Super Soaker came out long after my kid years. I did have a water pistol and so did my baby sis and in the summer time in our bathing suits in the backyard we'd "shoot" at each other. We also took turns with the water hose. We had so much fun. Now that seems ridiculously tame. I mean who does that these days? Thank you for your reply SPB and Happy Friday to thee and thine! :)
Yes they sting quite a bit, but they typically wouldn't leave more than a bruise. Just have to be sure not to pull a Ralphie and take one to the eyeball.
Lol it's a reference to the movie Christmas Story. About the little boy that wants a bb gun but keeps getting told he can't have one because he'll shoot his eye out.
Oh I never did see that movie for some reason. It plays on TV every year at Christmas. This year I'll try to watch it. Thank you for the added info SPB. I appreciate it! :)
Yes and no. Hunting is not "play". I also used subsonic rounds (quiet enough to get a second shot sometimes) which are fine for killing small game (rabbits, foxes, cats) but won't kill a human being. I still play with water pistols, I'm the fun grandfather.
Lucky grandkids R. Geez playing with water pistols still at your age? Isn't having extended family the best? I am unfamiliar with "subsonic" rounds. Soundless? Like a silencer on a gun would be? Did you or do you kill game for food R? Oh if I asked this question before apologies. We have chatted for so long I can't remember always accurately where we traveled together. Anyway our son Gary used to hunt for food not sport. I get that. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday to thee and thine. If I already said that today apologies again. Some days my brain doesn't retain much. SIGH! :)
Rabbits for food - and you have to pot a few to be sure of getting a feed, if the giblets have white spots they're useless. Myxomatosis. Wild cats and foxes because I'm an environmentalist, they're feral vermin in Australia (so are rabbits, but they're edible unless infected). Silencers have never been legal an Australia and despite what Hollywood may have helped you to believe, have only limited effectiveness - it's the sonic boom from the bullet breaking the sound barrier rather than the explosion and rush of gases that is the loudest part of a gun's report and a silencer can't stop that. Subsonic rounds don't exceed mach .9. Not silent but quieter.

You surely do know a lot about a lot of things m'dear. Someone less intelligent or cautious would just kill cook and eat. White spots on the giblets? I probably wouldn't even notice them. I am notoriously unobservant at times. It's a family joke in fact. After years of passing by something I'll comment on it. Jim just laughs at me and gently tells me "it's always been there honey"! AARRGGHH! I don't know where I get this idea but are rabbits slimy to eat? I've never had any occasion to eat any so I don't know where that comes from. Of course the usual question..."do they taste like chicken"? Thank you for your very informative reply R and Happy Saturday to thee and thine! :)
