Why are teeth like those shown below called "buck teeth"?

I googled many pictures of bucks (the male deer), and not even one had teeth like these.

Do we owe that species of the animal kingdom an unconditional apology?

Here's the real thing... Should it be the British who owe such apology to the bucks?

In French, buck teeth are called dents à l'anglaise, literally "English teeth."

  • But how did the word "buck" get associated? Or does that also have a foreign origin?

I am not aware, but found it funny what the French call them. What will be their reasonings behind it?

  • British-French history is one of mutual contempt. Always been that way down to modern times.

Buck is also a verb. The teeth look like they are bucking.

  • I think you'll find it has something to do with buck rabbits.
