Was there any unusual circumstances relating to your birth?

My mother gave birth to me in a hallway of the hospital because there were no available rooms in the hospital.  Also, a female doctor brought me into this world (I was born in 1950, and there were few female doctors during that era and in the hospital in the metropolitan area of California where I was born).

I was in breech position, and mum was in labour for 48 hours. They were prepping her for a caesarean (my heart was slowing) when I finally arrived.

But you were there! You were right there! You’re one of the few principal players in the whole event!

I know.  Do you think it might be early-onset dementia?

I would have to examine you before being able to answer with any precise decree of accuracy. You don’t have a problem with basements, do you? (Cough, cough.)

No examination is going to happen.

This reminded me of going to have an MRI of my hand.  The guy told me to remove all clothing above the waist.  Of course I refused to do so.  He said it was because my bra could have metal hooks....I said, what bra?

What a rank amateur he was! At least I know how to set a proper scene!

I was medically induced premature so mom wouldn't miss the holidays. I was underweight and paid for it by being one of the smallest males in our clan.

    Let's see....

I arrived early (its polite to get someplace early).
I wasn't female as nearly everyone expected (sorry, all bets are final).
I ripped apart my mom's "insides" on the way out, preventing her from being able to have any more children (I "broke the mold" - literally).

    .... Nah, I had a routine birth.

I was born extremely premature, was severely underweight, there was no expectation from the medical staff that I would survive.

I’ve written about the entire ordeal quite extensively here on AnswerMug, so I won’t reiterate the whole treatise now.

I was a 'yellow baby' born with jaundice which was fairly common at the time.
