If you’re familiar with this golden oldie, what is a personal memory it calls to mind for you?

“Cupid” by Sam Cooke, 1961.

LYRICS:

Cupid, draw back your bow
And let your arrow go
Straight to my lover's heart for me, for me
Cupid, please hear my cry
And let your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart for me
Now, I don't mean to be bother to you
But I'm in distress
There's danger of me losing all of my happiness
For I love a girl who doesn't know I exist
And this you can fix, so
Cupid, draw back your bow
And let your arrow go
Straight to my lover's heart for me
Nobody but me
Cupid, please hear my cry
And let your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart for me
Now Cupid, if your arrow make her love strong for me
I promise I will love her until eternity
I know between the two of us, her heart we can steal
Help me if you will, so
Cupid, draw back your bow
And let your arrow go
Straight to my lover's heart for me
Nobody but me
Cupid, please hear my cry
And let your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart for me
Now, Cupid
Don't you hear me
Calling you?
I need you
Cupid
Help me
I need you
Cupid, don't fail me
'Cause I need you

I love Sam Cooke.  I posted one his songs in the last few days.  No particular memory is brought forth hearing Cupid.

No particular memory from this song, but memories of a simpler time of life, a time when music was really good, singers were talented and had good voices and you could understand the words to songs.

AND when the lyrics of practically any popular song were clean enough to be played in front of any member of the family, regardless of age!

That, too.  The FCC used to have some moral standards.  Not anymore.

If you think that's true about that era, listen to these lyrics starting at 1:40

      That’s why I stated it as. “ . . . practically any popular song . . . ” and not every single song.

I call that 'swimming pool music', which is that kind of music they played there. That's the first thing I think of.

The Big Beat, a 50s/60s covers band I fronted for a while. We did a few Sam Cooke numbers, including that one.
