I had a friend whose last name was Meyer. That was my grandfather's first name. Also my grandfather changed his last name to Davis, which is the first name of the professional golfer Davis Love III.

That doesn’t make me popular at all. At my age, I’ve known thousands of people in my lifetime, with varying degrees of closeness and for varying time periods.
The coincidence is that to answer this question, I merely had to consult a list I began months ago listing as many surnames of my fellow Marines as I could remember. Every time I thought of one Marine in one unit to which I belonged, scores of other surnames came back to me, causing the list to expand quickly and greatly in a very short time. I have that list saved, and every time I remember someone else, I add his or her surname to it. Some of the people were in units with me, others I came across in other situations. As military service is more dependent upon surnames than given names, those stick out to me. Many of the Marines on my list, perhaps more than 51% of them, I have never known their given names or middle names. All I had to do was go through the list to find surnames that are also given names.
