What are the Constitutional duties of the President?

  Commander-in-chief
Article 2, Section 2: "The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states when called into the actual service of the United States"

  Chief Diplomat
Article 2, Section 2: "He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers, and consuls. . ."

 Chief Administrator
Article 2, Section 1: "The executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America."

  Chief Legislator
Article 1, Section 7: "Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it becomes a law, be presented to the President of the United States; if he approves he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the objections at large on their journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such reconsideration two-thirds of that House shall agree to pass the bill, it shall be sent, together with the objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two-thirds of that House, it shall become a law."

 Within those Constitutional duties, the President does indeed provide protection. Although Biden has failed in that respect. That said, nursemaid is not one of those duties. What you seem to be forgetting is that each state also has its own obligations to serve and protect its citizens. Protecting the United States is not a one-man show. The military has its role in protection. The police have their role. As do fire-fighters and emergency management, etc. We, as citizens, are also involved in its protection.
