In 1985 I got my 15 minutes of fame when I launched a 'message-in-a-bottle business. Planning a trip to St John's Newfoundland I decided I should put some messages in bottles and toss them in the Atlantic to see where they might end up if ever found. The Labrador current comes down from the north then is picked up by the Gulf Stream heading toward the British Iles then spreading mostly southward. I got young relatives and their friends to make up messages to be bottled.. Media somehow got wind and followed my activities. About 150 bottled messages were launched about 3 miles offshore and in about 6 months the first reply came back from Ireland by a retired guy out walking the shore. Within a year 9 bottled messages were found: England, France and Spain. Meantime I moved to a different city so I never heard if any more were found.
Sure.. I want to make a trip east again one of these years. I lived on the east coast for 10 years. I live on the west coast now and the off shore current here comes toward the coast from Asian countries so any bottles set adrift just come back or may be found on the coastline of US states. That's what happens OK -i'll let you know when I plan a trip east.
