Suppose a foreigner asked you where in the USA they could visit for the purpose of having a REAL AMERICAN EXPERIENCE..

Where would you recommend that they come to visit? They have 2 weeks to spend on their holiday.

I would fib and tell them Tofino and parts of Uculet have been part of the US  since 1967  so that they go there and spend their holiday dollars. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at August 11, 2021 6:37 AM MDT

You would need to visit more than one location.  East (north and south) and West coast, somewhere in the south and midwest.

But suppose the visitor only wanted to spend time in one locality eg. Grand Canyon..

There is sight seeing and then there is the American experience.
Grand Canyon is beautiful but is not the American experience. So I geuss it would depend on what type of experience they were looking for.

There is Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Smoky Mountains, ocean beaches, rivers and lakes etc.

One area...North/central Tx.  People are very nice. Can visit the Alamo, Six Flags, Sea World, Schlitterbahn water park, San Antonio or Dallas Zoo,  take a tour of a company that makes Dinosaur animatronics, see fossilized dinosaur tracks, see the Perot Museum in Dallas.

Have you ever thought you might like to  be  a tour guide? A visitor would need months to spend time at all those places.

Well after you tell them to skip it could you please recomend that they visit Vancouver Island. We are trying push ecotourism to save our trees from the logging companys. If they are not into saving trees tell them thar there are some narley surfing waves on our west coast and they will have to pass through a rainforest to get there (it is a temperate rainforest but still a rainforest so you wouldn'the be lying ). Cheers!

Yes, go there.  I loved my time there.  Haven't been able to go back for awhile.  Hopefully, I will make it back.

I've been to some Orioles games at Camden Yards and attended a wedding at the World Trade Center. Is it anywhere near the inner harbor?

REAL AMERICAN EXPERIENCE? A gun show in Kentucky.

  • Anywhere. I would assume that said foreigner might be thinking of the "stereotypical American experience", but if they say "real" then I'll show them that a "real American" can live in any part of the country and there's plenty to see and experience no matter where you are. I'd show them the natural wonders of California then maybe finish with a backyard barbecue. :)

I would suggest small towns.  That is how you get a feel for a country.  It is what I've always done when visiting other countries.  I've spent much time in both England and France but have yet to see Paris or London.  I saw Muchen because of the Olympics.  The only people I know who are like New Yorkers are,  well, New Yorkers.  The city.

Also, I would tell them that time is of the essence....
