    Similar reason as Savvy's!

    A friend staying for a long weekend was horribly ill in the early hours, after accidentally swallowing some of the river she'd been swimming in, that day.

    One begs one's pardon.

    I tend to put commas in long sentences partly where I think right for clarity and partly where I would probably pause for breath between clauses if reading it aloud!

    Oooh look! There are no commas in that sentence...

    People drop by from time to time, but mostly dealing with medical issues that my mom and/or dad have. None of us are very outgoing enough to know friends well enough to invite them to anything.
